Rental Agreement No.: 2075622009

I pre-booked a small van for a day hire via the internet from Europcar UK Ltd at a quoted 40.25 euros to be collected 19.09.09 from their Etoile Foch depot in Paris France, this quote subsequently morphed into a total of 109.71 euros with CDW insurance and other sundry extra charges and insurances, but not to worry you live and learn.

I was sent to pick up and check the vehicle from reception unaccompanied, the sheet detailed no panel damage and only one small scratch, the reality however was somewhat different with dents, scratches and other defects which took me twenty minutes to list, after which back to reception to get the damage verified and counter-signed.

The van was returned after six hours and the hire desk assistant after having the vehicle checked informed me that everything was O.K. and bade me “au revoir”, I insisted that before I was prepared to go anywhere I required a printed final invoice and also return of the credit card authorisation slip for the security deposit of 700.00 euros, which he had told me at the time of the hire would not be processed and would be destroyed after the vehicle had been brought back in the same condition as it originally had left the agency, he point blank refused my request for return of the slip but did eventually and after a great deal of fuss on my part print out a final invoice, and again insisted that the security deposit would not be processed.

Over three weeks later I now find that a total of 809.71 euros has been taken from my credit card account for a six hour hire of a small van, and Europcar, their central office and the Paris depot are ignoring all communication.

I have informed my credit card issuer of the unauthorized charge in respect of the security deposit, which according to Europcar`s own terms and conditions is refunded at the termination of the hire, I am currently taking advice on possible civil and / or criminal proceedings against this company along with reporting them to the Office of Fair Trading and European Trading Standards.

LI Flooring (or L.I. Flooring) are a Polish outfit of a guy (Ivan) and his girlfriend fitting laminate and solid wood floors for cash. They usually advertise on ‘Gumtree’. I used them twice (dining room and lounge/hallway) and although intially the job looked very good they do not leave any EXPANSION GAPS. The floor is now warping and lifting in places. Ivan does not return any calls, texts or e-mails. It is clear that as soon as there is a problem, it’s YOUR problem. I supplied the flooring and materials and it will cost me again to hire someone else to sort this mess out. There is no need for him to conduct business in this unprofessional way so I’d advise you to avoid using this company. Use a more reputable company to fit your floor with proper guarantees to return if the work is wrong. Although Ivan seemed alright it just goes to show you.

Countrywide Property Lawyers: I can only make my feeling known here. CWPL have been a total nightmare for us. Incompetant, lazy, slow, dishonest, untruthful and innefective are just a few words that come to mind. I can only think that either a) You have got the name of your conveyancers mixed up with CWPL or b) you work for them and are trying to repair an appaling reputation. I am angry with our estate agents for recomending CWPL, the whole business has taken a month longer than it needed and costs are still climbing. I hope anyone reading your review also reads the others, as I would hate anyone else to make the same mistake. I would like to see CWPL out of business and all their staff homeless and living rough, as nearly happened to us following their appaling service. Can’t say too much as we will be taking them to court as soon as our sale and purchase is finally lais to rest.

Staples Durham Desk: “This is a wonderful desk. Whenever I need to make a major purchase, I’m always referring to reviews. I’m picky! I searched for months looking for an attractive, sturdy, decent size, stylish and yet affordable desk to put in my small bdrm/office space. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. It’s rich in color, it’s sturdy (one person can’t move it) which means, it’s not tippy when bumped. I use my laptop on this desk and still have a large writing area. The front drawer can be used for a keyboard or odds/ends. I use it for papers and I actually put a organizer in it that holds odds and ends like paper clips, post-its, rubber bands, staples etc. and still have room for more items. I purchased this desk ‘online’ for [$] along with the Low Hutch which I love for [$]. The hutch has 2 small drawers which do stick some and can be a hassle opening, but I won’t sweat the small stuff. The top of the hutch is wide enough for just about anything. I have a lamp, phone, big candle, picture frame, pen/pencil holder, calendar and letter holder and still room to spare. I also purchased the 2 drawer filing cabinet which is necessary if you need more storage. That is on wheels which is nice, but I have my TV sitting on it, so it doesn’t move. The drawers glide smoothly. This entire outfit is easy to assemble. I did it all myself while my husband was out for the day. He was surprised to find this beautiful piece built and set up without me needing his helping hand. Don’t pass this desk up, trust me, I shopped long and hard and there isn’t anything out there that can beat this outfit for the price. OUTSTANDING!”

Visted here in Jan 09 for a bit of sun and was looking for the best this island had to offer, Royal Garden Villa’s on paper were the best you could get for your Euro’s.
Booked 10 days at 350 euro a night and the flights with Monach, the flights were flights and good value. The car hire with red car I think was good value until I had to pay an extra 50 Euro for extra insurance….. not such good value. We were upgraded to a two bedroom villa, very pretty and normally 500 Euro a night, to look at this villa was so so pretty and amazing, the service of the villa was below par with a few of the evening information leaflets being in German …… i’m English. So five star they maybe on paper, but to be honest they have a 5 star look with a 2 star service. The road noise is a problem, if you are in the bottom villa’s then I think this would be a problem.

I say do not stay here, it is a waste of cash……

There is one thing that I would say was truthly amazing and that would be the food ………. the chef is great, the food clever and very big in flavour, go for the tasting menu as you get wine with the food and thats not cheap rubbish wine, but wine that has been selected for the dish.

Food and Restaurant amazing, Villa’s pretty to look at, but NOT worth 5 star money, visit Melia Bali if you would like 5 star treatment and thats less then 5 star money.

Too bad I read the negative reviews for Europcar AFTER finding out the hard way that they are run by con artists! I rented a car through holidayautos.com, paid upfront, and picked up the car in Malaga, Spain with no problem. The car was fine, clean. I drove to Madrid where I had arranged to drop it off at the airport before catching a flight. The drive took longer than planned so by the time my husband and I arrived to the airport we were pressed for time to catch our flight. Of course there was no attendant in the office, so I had to wait 5-10 minutes before turning in the key. The man asked me if there was any damage, which there wasn’t, and I told him that we didn’t have time to fill up the tank was all. So he took my credit card and made me sign a sheet. I noticed that there was a total of 155 Euros and I asked him why. In my nervous, rushed state I didn’t realize that I was trusting him to be honest and didn’t quite understand his Spanish, but I gathered that I would only be charged the amount for gas. He gave me the slip and said that was it. When I returned to the U.S. I received a credit card statement with 260 Euros worth of charges! I called Europcar and they said they were charging me for damages! What damages??????? They said that when I signed the slip I was authorizing them to survey the vehicle and charge me for any damages that they could muster up! Now my credit card company can’t do anything because I naively signed the form. What about the remaining 105 Euros, I asked. They claimed that they have a signature for that as well! They are going to try to claim it is for gas, but hopefully I can prove to VISA that the gas should be included in the 155 Euros. Obviously the lesson I learned is to never trust anyone even if it means miss my flight? I had never had a rental company claim damages that weren’t there, but Europcar took advantage of me and did. Now that I am out to ruin their reputation, I realize that they already have a bad one! I’m not the only one they have scammed. So, if you or someone you know is thinking of renting from Europcar, DON’T! It’s not worth the cheaper rates because you will end up paying more! Summary: Europcar is run by con artists who find a way to charge you for fake damages
